Here, no notion of hunger or thirst, no endurance gauge to take into account, we focus on harvesting, destroying and manufacturing. Some clues are hidden in the scenery.ĭYSMANTLE stands out from most of its competitors by simplifying the survival and crafting aspect, reduced to the most essential. We can only hope for the addition of this mode later. We also note the absence of an online co-op mode at the time of this writing. The two protagonists will then have to stay close to each other and it is impossible to really share farming and explore two buildings separately. It should be noted that the title can be played alone or with two players in local cooperation, but oddly not on a separate screen, while the title lends itself perfectly to this. Only the bosses present during certain main quests or in certain key places on the island can cause some problems, but nothing absolutely insurmountable. As much at the launch of the title, they seem difficult to defeat as we die quickly, as the clashes become quite easy once our avatar has improved and the dodging roll has been mastered. We note less than ten different types of enemies, excluding bosses, with variables on their running speed, attack or reach. The bestiary is unfortunately not very varied, bringing a certain redundancy to the title. The fights mainly take place in melee at the start of the adventure. Shrines are an opportunity to reveal some information and collect resources. Inside these, puzzles of increasing difficulty reward us with various resources or valuable clues. These vaults are also an opportunity to put our logic and our reflexes to the test. If the fog sometimes thickens around the origin of these apocalyptic circumstances, perhaps we will find some answers inscribed on well-hidden steles, or in underground sanctuaries. The cursed island from which we are trying to escape contains many secrets. Some missions, a bit “fedex” at times, will allow us to guess what happened to this family around the corner, to find buried treasure in the local cemetery, or even to reveal some mysteries concerning an ancient civilization.
Regarding the scenario, if we are briefly explained the situation in which we find ourselves at the beginning, it will be up to us to look in the various buildings for clues to the origin and consequences of the cataclysm that took place a few years earlier. The Collection tab contains a lot of information, especially on the bestiary and the points of interest to discover. They are even listed under the same tab in the pause menu, useful for knowing the percentage of completion of each of the zones. The different missions and points of interest are thus visible on the map or on the mini-map at the bottom of the screen. The map is huge and the many hours it takes to see it all are a real pleasure to navigate, as this hand-crafted world is so coherent and intelligent.
We cross several shimmering environments there, ranging from residential suburbs to tropical forest, from the frozen steppes in the north to the inhospitable desert in the south. The title features a colorful cartoonish art direction, and adopts a classic but effective isometric 3D view. The map is huge and contains several biomes and points of interest. We will have to look for resources, make our equipment, make it evolve, and sometimes carry out some small investigations by teaching us a little more about its universe. No other choice than to get out of the ground, and try to survive in this hostile environment. Unfortunately, a few years after being reclusive in this secure place, food runs out. Alone, our avatar spent a few years in an underground bunker. Vile emaciated creatures have appeared on this once flourishing island, where nature has now taken over. A new disaster has once again devastated the world.
